What are ADR dangerous goods?

ADR dangerous goods are substances that, during transport, may pose a threat to people, the environment, or property. Their transport is regulated by the international ADR agreement, which sets out the rules for the safe road transport of such goods. They require appropriate vehicle marking, driver training, and adherence to detailed procedures. Each stage of transport must comply with regulations to minimize the risk of accidents or damage. The ADR classification divides these materials into 9 ADR classes.

What are the ADR classes?

01

Explosive materials

Substances capable of rapid chemical reaction, e.g., fireworks, dynamite, ammunition.

02

Gases

Substances in a gaseous state, which can be flammable, toxic, or inert, e.g., propane, medical oxygen, butane.

03

Flammable liquids

Liquids that easily ignite upon contact with fire, e.g., gasoline, ethanol, paints.

04

Flammable solids

Solid substances that can ignite through friction, spark, or heat, e.g., phosphorus, sulfur, magnesium.

05

Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides

Substances that can release oxygen and accelerate combustion, e.g., potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide.

06

Toxic and infectious substances

Substances harmful to health, capable of causing poisoning or infections, e.g., cyanide, viral samples.

07

Radioactive materials

Substances emitting ionizing radiation, which can be hazardous to people and the environment, e.g., uranium, cobalt-60.

08

Corrosive substances

Substances that destroy tissues and surfaces, e.g., sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, ammonia.

09

Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles

Substances not classified in other groups, e.g., asbestos, lithium-ion batteries, dry ice.

What should be considered during ADR transport?

In ADR transport, it is crucial to adhere to regulations ensuring the safety of people, the environment, and property. Appropriate vehicle marking and equipping the driver with transport documentation and protective equipment are essential. Proper securing of the cargo, in accordance with its hazard class, is also important. The driver must have current ADR qualifications and knowledge of emergency procedures to minimize the risk of accidents and damage.
